Four Seasons Hotels to open in Marbella its second hotel in Spain

The Four Seasons Hotel Resort in Marbella will be built on a beach front location with the first brick being laid as early as October 5. It has been described by sources as a ‘huge project’ which will bring back some ‘glamour’ to the tourism hotspot.

The land is owned by Villa Padierna, belonging to Malaga businessman Ricardo Arranz, who has partnered with North American firm Fort Partners and Belgian real estate company Inmobel. Four Seasons will not only manage the hotel, but also the private residences and villas. The complex will also include internationally-renowned restaurants that will come to Spain solely for this project.

The luxury hotel resort will be the brainchild of architect Richard Meier and has been described by those involved in the project as ‘a marvel’. It is scheduled to open in 2020.

It is hoped it will kindle a ‘new era’ in luxury tourism in Marbella. Ricardo Arranz, President of Villa Padierna, who are partners in the project, said: “Marbella and Madrid need the glamour that these types of brands give. Arranz added that the residences on the complex will allow for the very wealthy to stay for up to two months at a time.

Marbella is very popular for the Arab and Russian markets, and will help ‘remove seasonality’, something the golfing market has ‘not been able to do fully’.

The first Four Seasons Hotel in Spain will open in 2019 in the capital city of Madrid in Centro Canalejas. However, the works are reportedly delayed because of the conservation restriction which the heritage building poses. In addition to the 200 rooms and suites (among the largest in the city), Four Seasons Hotel Madrid will house two restaurants, an indoor swimming pool and a spa. The 22 residences under the Four Seasons brand are already up for sale.
